Job Description/ Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and collaborate closely with classroom Educators, Child Care Centre Supervisors and other Professionals working with the child in the implementation of programs to successfully integrate children with special needs into the classroom setting
  • Provide consistent, daily support to build capacity within the educator to implement goals developed by Consultants that support the childrenwith the aim ofindependence
  • Utilize the Program Support Services Team observation/assessment and work alongside child care centre staff, to implement the work plan
  • Develop a contract with staff and supervisor reflecting the goals and action plans
  • Collaborate with child care centre staff in the design and implementation of individualized interventions for the classroom, as needed
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, parents, support workers and community service providers working with children/staff in a team environment
  • Use a consultative and coaching approach when working with child care centre staff, and raise awareness of the needs of all of the children in the classroom
  • Guide and support child care centre staff in their ability to approach parents and provide information on appropriate services within the community
  • Complete a pre and post baseline measure for all interpersonal interactions within the centre
  • Explore and identify training needs for the staff and parents and recommend or provide training as required
  • Provide information, research and documentation to child care centres to enhance their ability to implement the work plan
  • Support the staff and children by utilizing a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, active listening, observing, questioning, demonstrating and supporting
  • Observe children for the purpose of supporting the educator to create learning opportunities that promote development within social, emotional, cognitive, language, sensory and physical domains
  • Create an atmosphere which builds upon individual learning styles, interests, and celebrates the cultural and ethnic diversity of the children and their families
  • Document the work plan progress on a regular basis. Write a final report upon completion of the contract
  • Maintain accurate statistics of programs and staff served as required
  • Be culturally sensitive and endeavor to remove all barriers which prevent acceptance and accessibility for all children within the classroom
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects the confidentiality, health, security and well-being of all children and staff, reporting issues to the Coordinator as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supports to Child Care Coordinator


  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or ECE Diploma, Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or other relevant diploma or degree
  • ECE’s must be registered and “In Good Standing” with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • At least five years’ experience providing direct intervention to children with developmental and behavioural needs, and their parents
  • At least 3 years’ Supervisory or leadership experience
  • Ability to build rapport and develop relationships using excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to respond effectively to multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills including team building, Conflict Resolution, motivational skills
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Thorough understanding of services and resources available in the Halton Region
  • Working knowledge of “Think Feel Act”, “How Does Learning Happen” and other Ministry of Education documents pertaining to the Early Learning Field
  • Working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act
  • Knowledge of the Quality First model, and THRC programs and services
  • Knowledge of Developmental Assets® an asset
  • Experience working in a child care environment, an asset
